The pancreatic cancer staging: It is the degree of development, mainly the prevalence of the cancerous process. The size of a malignant tumor, the degree of its spread in the neighboring organs and the presence of distant cancerous cells determine the stage of pancreatic cancer. For staging of pancreatic cancer, it is necessary to carry out the patient thorough investigation. Information on the process of cancer spread is obtained through CT scan with contrast, ultrasound or endoscopic ultrasound with biopsy (EUS biopsy), ERCP and PET-CT scan (if there is suspicion of metastasis).

CHARACTERISTICS OF PANCREAS CANCER BY STAGES

PANCREAS CANCER STAGE 1

The size of the neoplasm is up to 2 cm (stage IA of the pancreas cancer) or more than 2 cm (stage IB of the pancreas cancer). The tumor is located in the gland and does not extend beyond its boundaries. Lymph nodes are clean, no metastases detected (N0M0).

PANCREAS CANCER STAGE 2

Stage 2A: in this stage, the malignant tumor crosses the border of the gland and affects the duodenum, as well as the bile duct. In lymph nodes and distant organs, cancer cells are NOT detected (N0M0). Stage 2B: Malignant neoplasm, in addition, affects the nearest lymph nodes (N1M0). The size of the tumor can vary.

PANCREAS CANCER STAGE 3

The region of tumor localization also includes the spleen, stomach and large intestine. The process may affect / NOT affect the nearest lymph nodes (N0 / 1, M0). There is a possibility of cancer spread to vital nerves and blood vessels.

PANCREAS CANCER STAGE 4

The process of metastasis begins. Cancer cells enter the lungs of the patient, his liver and other important organs for normal functioning of the body. The nearest lymph nodes may not be affected (N0 / 1, M1). It is also important to mention that pancreatic cancer is often classified using the operability parameter. Thus, pancreatic cancer is divided into resectable cancer (mainly 1-2 stages, 15% of cases), locally advanced cancer (stage 3, may be operable or not) and also a stage with metastases (unresectable tumor, stage 4, 55 % of cases).

THERAPY OF PANCREAS CANCER BASED ON ITS STAGE

TREATMENT OF PANCREATIC CANCER IN STAGE 1

With cancer of the head of the pancreas in stage 1, the Whipple surgery is recommended. A tumor with this localization is diagnosed in the prevailing number of cases. During surgery, part of the gland, two-third of the stomach, gallbladder and duodenum is removed. If the tumor is localized in the tail of the gland at the initial stage then distal pancreatectomy is performed. In such procedure, the tail and body of the pancreas are resected.

TREATMENT OF PANCREATIC CANCER IN STAGE 2

Whipple’s operation is also possible in stage 2 cancer of the head of the pancreas. During this stage, in additional to everything mentioned above, the surrounding lymph nodes affected by the cancerous process are removed. Specialists also recommend a distal pancreatectomy (see above) in Inoperable cancers of the pancreatic tail in stage 2.

TREATMENT OF PANCREATIC CANCER IN STAGE 3

With cancer of the head of the pancreas in stage 3, Whipple’s operation is possible provided that NO vitals vessels and nerves are affected. Main feature of distal pancreatectomy in stage 3 is the resection, including the cancer of the spleen. Chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer in stage 3 is used as the main method of therapy for an unresectable tumor in or in addition to surgery for minimizing the risks of disease return (in combination with surgery it is also performed in 1 & 2 stage).

TREATMENT OF PANCREATIC CANCER IN STAGE 4

In the last stage of cancer, the Whipple pancreas surgery is used exclusively as a palliative therapy (to minimize pain and improve the general condition of the patient). Therapy of pancreatic cancer without surgery is possible by the device Nano-Knife. In 4th stage of pancreatic cancer doctors use this device to destroy malignant neoplasm with the help of an electric current. However, only few surgeons in the world have a certificate for such treatment. These are some doctors of Sheba, Assuta and Helios medical centers.

CLINICS FOR TREATMENT OF PANCREATIC CANCER

andalou_hosiptal

If you are looking for a clinic to treat pancreatic cancer, the first thing you should pay attention to is the experience of a specialist. In different cases, it is important to find about the specialist’s knowledge & skills of conducting complex surgical procedure as well as the availability of a certificate for the use of Nano-Knife in case of inoperable cancer. Among TOP specialists in the Whipple operation, it is worth mentioning:

  • Israeli surgeons Prof. Joseph Klausner (Ichilov),
  • German Specialists – Prof. Boris Pfaffenbach (Solingen Hospital), Prof. Thomas Krauss (Nordwest), Prof. Karl Oldhafer (Asklepios),
  • Turkish expert Prof. Dr. Necdet Üskent (Anadolu).
  •

Unique certificates allowing to conduct pancreatic cancer therapy with Nano-Knife installation are doctors Yuri Goldis (Sheba Hospital), Riad Hadad and Marat Hayikin (Assuta Medical Center), and Mathias Birt (Helios Clinic). Among other clinics, leading in terms of survival rates of patients with this kind of cancer, it is worth highlighting:

Michael: “My older brother (62 years) was diagnosed with third stage of pancreatic cancer. We were refused to be helped in our country and literally he was sent to die. Thank you to our friends who told us about the Nano Knife apparatus, even at that stage it was possible to relieve pain and prolong lifespan. We sent our documents to different clinics and chose Assuta in the end. I liked that the doctors spoke other wise, did not promise the impossible in terms of full recovery. They said it as it is. We went to the professor the very next day after the arrival. We were consulted by Prof. Moshe Inbar. First they carried out thorough diagnosis. Next, they treated with a nano-knife + irradiation + a combination of chemotherapy. After the single beam my brother began to feel much better. Conducted again some tests – the results showed improvement. Another doctor suggested a new drug of immunotherapy. It helps the body to fight malignant cells and improves the general condition. In principle, we got what we expected. Now we are at home and continue treatment here. If it were not for the Israeli doctors, we would have lost hope long ago … Thank you from all our family !!!”

Galina: “My grandfather has the stage 4 cancer. It’s clear that nobody came to our country to treat us. We found a doctor in Germany. Professor Dietrich W. Beelen, the only one in the country who treats with Nano-Knife. The operation is of course very expensive – 28 thousand Euros. Finances were gathered by the whole family. But they firmly decided that the time you can spend with a native person is worth any money. It’s been six months now and the grandfather feels much better than when we arrived for treatment. Thanks to the doctor and everyone who helped us morally and financially!”
