He received his medical education at the Ludwig-Maximilian Faculty of Medicine. Until 1998 he was deputy chief physician in the urology department of the Ludwig-Maximilian University Hospital (LMU). Later, he was chief urologist at the district hospital in Ebersberg. In 2002, he received his degree as professor at the Ludwig-Maximilian Hospital and became chief physician at the Munich-Planegg Urology Clinic.
