About the doctor
Leading specialist in cardiology, and since 1992 – director of the Cardiology and Angiology Department at Clinic Charite Berlin. In recent years, the clinic has developed a special expertise in the field of minimally invasive treatment of heart valve diseases with the help of catheterization. It was Professor Gert Baumann who first conducted a minimally invasive operation to replace the valve with the TAVI method.
This method also allows treating patients with aortic valve stenosis, which are usually considered inoperable. The famous cardiosurgeon with the team of colleagues performs more than 400 minimally invasive operations per year. Also, the doctor pays special attention to problems of heart disease in women.
During his medical career, Professor Gert Baumann conducted more than 50 clinical studies in the field of coronary heart disease and heart failure, also actively collaborated research with the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMFT) and the German Research Foundation (DFG).
