Dr. Robert Thimme

Professor, MD is a chief physician of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department at the Freiburg University Clinic. A well-known specialist in immunology and virology. He studied medicine at the Free University of Berlin, as well as the University of Albert and Ludwig.

Held the position of clinical observer at Sloane-Kettering Memorial Cancer Center (New York), as well as a research fellowship at the Scripps Research Institute (California). From 2004 to the present time he is a junior professor of hepatitis virus infections at the Medical Faculty of the University of Freiburg.

For achievements in the field of hepatology, he was awarded the Scientific Prize from the American Liver Foundation, the Heine Medin award from the European Society for Clinical Virology, the Medical Prize from the German Academy of Sciences Narforscher Leopoldin and others. Professor also conducts research in the field of immune responses to the hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV), as well as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
