Clinic Review
The Institut Curie in Paris is one of the the leading cancer center in Europe, recognized by the French National Cancer Institute (INCa) and the French Pediatric Oncology Association (SFCE).
Here all types of cancers in 1st to 4th stages of varying complexity are treated (with metastases, violation of the functions of the organs that surround the tumor). Since Institut Curie has its own Research Center, patients have access to the latest developments in oncology and advanced treatment.
More than 50,000 patients come here every year.
The oncological center of the Curie Institut in Paris is:
- The national center of retinoblastoma treatment (eye cancer) - in collaboration with the Rothschild Foundation, the Institute is actively involved in research on the malignant retinal cancer of the eye at the national and international levels in developed Western and third world countries.
- The proton therapy center along with the Antoine Lacassane Center in Nice - advanced high-precision radiation therapy using proton rays for the treatment of cancer in children is conducted which minimizes the effects of radiation on healthy tissues.
- One of the best medical institutions for combating medulloblastoma for conducting research in this type of brain cancer and applying the latest methods of treatment.
- The leading clinic in France for the treatment of high-risk Ewing sarcoma and low-risk neuroblastoma due to the most effective and safe treatment of these malignant tumors with proton therapy.
- Leader in the field of molecular medicine.

METHODS OF DIAGNOSING CANCER IN THE INSTITUT CURIE
In the Institut Curie of Paris, diagnosis of cancer is carried out using advanced MRI and CT scanners to determine the exact location of the malignant neoplasm, its size, shape, rate of development and the extent of damage to surrounding tissues and organs.
In the Curie Cancer Center, a unique, highly accurate molecular diagnosis of childhood cancer is available that allows you to identify the genetic characteristics of tumors in order to select the most appropriate cancer treatment for each individual patient.
"For all age groups in the aggregate, there are 100 different types of sarcomas, which sometimes require completely different methods of treatment. Therefore, in order to establish a truly effective treatment, it is very important to first establish the correct diagnosis, "explains Olivier Delattre, head of the Department of Genetics and Biology of Cancer at Institut Curie.
Thanks to molecular diagnostics, even the rarest and most complex types of cancer in children are diagnosed in the Curie hospital. Every year about 4,200 outpatients and 260 inpatients from 0 to 18 years old are treated here.
METHODS OF CANCER TREATMENT IN THE INSTITUT CURIE
Leading oncologists of the Institut Curie clinic in Paris conduct successful treatment of breast cancer, head, spinal cord, pancreatic cancer, malignant blood diseases, liver cancer, malignant neoplasms in the kidney and other cancers of varying severity.
For the treatment of cancer in the Oncocentre of Curie they use:
- Proton therapy - This is a modern method of radiotherapy using proton beams. This procedure allows to significantly increase the dose of radiation, focusing directly on the tumor (accurate to 2 mm) and minimize the effect of radiation on healthy tissues and organs of the patient.
- Radiation therapy - In the Curie Clinic, advanced linear accelerators are placed, which allow the destruction of cancer cells without harm to the healthy cells.
- Immunotherapy - the use of special drugs that activate the immune system and stimulate it to fight with pathological cells. Institut Curie is the only in France having separately dedicated Immunotherapy Center.
- Target therapy - Assumes the use of drugs that affect a particular feature of the cancer cell and block it. The Curie Institut uses about 30 types of targeted therapy.
- Surgery - Patients of the clinic perform tumor removal in high-tech operating units with the help of modern safe minimally invasive methods: laparoscopic, robotic operations, interventions with intraluminal GPS navigators and improved classical methods.
