Clinic Review
Deutsches Herzzentrum München (German Heart Center Munich) is the first specialized heart clinic in Europe, which was founded in 1972-1973. It deals with the treatment of cardiac diseases in both adults and children. The centre includes all necessary departments for the effective treatment of cardiac pathologies under one roof. This makes it possible to optimally organize the coordinated work of doctors, who work in teams to make a personalized treatment plan for each patient.
There are 197 beds in the clinic for the comfortable stay of patients, and professional medical support is provided by 1,200 employees. Every year, the German Heart Center Munich conducts the following number of different procedures:

Features of the Clinic
Department of Cardiovascular Surgery Deutsches Herzzentrum München
The Department of Cardiovascular Surgery performs about 2,600 operations a year and is one of the leading departments in Germany. It is led by Prof. Rüdiger Lange. The departments offer following surgical treatments for the heart and large blood vessels:
valve reconstruction via coronary artery revascularization;
invasive treatment of aortic aneurysms;
coronary artery bypass grafting;
heart transplantation.
All interventions are performed using modern equipment and gentle techniques, making it easier for patients to tolerate surgeries and recover from them faster. This is because doctors make minimal incisions and do not damage tissue, as is the case with conventional surgical procedures.
Department of Pediatric Cardiology and Congenital Heart Diseases at Deutsches Herzzentrum München
In the pediatric cardiology department, a team of highly qualified specialists works 24 hours a day, allowing young patients to be monitored particularly closely. Each year, they perform 550 heart surgeries on children and adolescents, most of which involve the use of a heart-lung machine. They also perform more than 800 cardiac examinations each year, 200 of them on infants.
Doctors at the clinic seek an individual approach to each young patient and their parents because they believe that only then is successful treatment possible. There is everything you need to make your child feel comfortable - there is a playroom and a library in the department.
Pediatric specialists at the German Heart Center Munich are successfully working with heart diseases of varying complexity - the survival rate of patients here is about 97%. Only 5 clinics in the world have a similarly high rate.
Institute of Anesthesiology at the German Heart Center Munich
Deutsches Herzzentrum München focuses on the latest standards in anesthesiology. Soft and safe anaesthesia methods are available for patients, which allow the treatment of premature infants, children and critically ill patients over 90 years of age. In the diagnosis and correction of congenital heart disease in children, the centre performs about 1,000 anaesthesia procedures each year.
