Features of the Clinic

Infertility diagnosis at the Cyprus IVF Hospital

The Cyprus IVF Centre offers all patients a free introductory consultation with a fertility doctor. Within an hour the couple can discuss their problems with conception and receive individual recommendations from the doctor on the best treatment option. Patients do not have to sign up for IVF treatment at the centre afterwards.

For effective infertility treatment, it is important to understand the reason why a couple is unable to conceive naturally to find the most effective method of dealing with the problem. The doctor prescribes the tests after conducting a thorough interview of the couple, asking them about their health and reproductive history in detail.

Diagnostic tests carried out at Cyprus IVF Hospital are not included in the package as they are individualised. Those will have to be paid for separately.

Women can be prescribed such tests:

иконка галочки AMHI (assessment of ovarian reserve) - a hormonal test that allows the selection of an ovarian hormonal stimulation protocol.

иконка галочки Hysteroscopy - visual inspection of the uterus for possible defects that could stand in the way of embryo implantation, such as neoplasms or scarring of the tissue. This examination is recommended for all women before IVF, particularly if they have already had a history of unsuccessful artificial insemination. In some cases, a SONO HSG sonographic examination may be performed.

иконка галочки Tests for infectious diseases and STDs.

Techniques for diagnosing male infertility include:

иконка галочки Ultrasound examination of the reproductive organs.

иконка галочки Semen laboratory examination (spermogram).

иконка галочки SCD test - allows for the detection of fertility problems related to sperm DNA.

иконка галочки HBA test - determines the ability of sperm cells to bind to hyaluronate and fertilize the egg.

иконка галочки Tests for infectious diseases and STDs.

In addition, the clinic offers several diagnostic services for IVF. First and foremost, there is genetic testing of the parents. It allows for detecting a predisposition to diseases that could be passed on to the child. Doctors also carry out PGD and PGS tests to select healthy embryos and choose the desired sex of the future child.

IVF at the Cyprus IVF Hospital

Infertility treatment by artificial insemination is the main speciality of the IVF clinic in Cyprus. The method enables couples who are unable to conceive naturally to have a baby. Most medical organisations recommend seeking the help of a reproductive specialist if pregnancy does not occur for a year or more.

Depending on the situation, intrauterine insemination and in vitro fertilisation options are available. The former is used in situations where there are problems with sperm quality or the patient has requested donor insemination.

In cases where an abnormal pregnancy occurs during the fertilisation or implantation stage, in vitro fertilisation can be carried out. The egg is fertilised manually by the doctor - "in vitro" - after which the embryos are inserted into the uterus. If a man has a sperm formation disorder, ICSI is carried out - a procedure in which the doctor manually inserts a sperm cell into the cytoplasm of the egg.

IVF is standardly carried out in several stages:

эко клиника кипра

иконка галочки Ovulation induction is the first stage of treatment. During it, the woman has to take hormonal medication to have several eggs mature at once. Using more than one egg greatly increases the chances of successful IVF. However, natural cycle IVF may be possible for some patients who cannot undergo this procedure due to their health conditions.

иконка галочки Oocyte retrieval is done 34-36 hours after the last hormonal injection. The procedure is done under ultrasound with the use of anaesthesia.

иконка галочки Sperm extraction - in cases where sperm cannot be obtained naturally, a testicular aspiration is performed (extraction with a needle, under anaesthesia).

иконка галочки Fertilisation - the formation, selection and maturation of the embryo.

иконка галочки Embryo transfer - carried out 2-5 days after egg retrieval.

For 10-20 days the patient stays close to the clinic so that the doctors have a chance to monitor her condition. If the fertilisation is successful, she can then return home to monitor the pregnancy and prepare for delivery.

Various factors influence the success of the IVF procedure, such as the age and health status of the mother, embryo status, reproductive history and the presence of bad habits. For most couples, 2-4 cycles are sufficient for a successful pregnancy.

IVF using donor cells at the Cyprus IVF Hospital

The Cyprus IVF clinic offers all types of artificial insemination using donor cells: sperm, eggs and embryos. Couples can go to the clinic with their donor or use the services of a donor bank. Male and female egg and sperm donors are anonymous and undergo a strict selection process. They are in excellent physical health, do not have any hereditary diseases and have an above-average intelligence level. Prospective parents can choose a donor based on their height, weight, race, blood group, eye and hair colour.

Donor eggs or embryos will only lead to pregnancy if the endometrium of the recipient's uterus has been satisfactorily prepared. This requires synchronising the menstrual cycles of the donor and the mother. This can take up to two-three months. Sometimes synchronisation occurs right from the start. Then the IVF process can begin immediately.

Cyprus IVF Hospital works with Europe's most respected sperm donor banks, Cryos International and European Sperm Bank.

Surrogacy at the Cyprus IVF Hospital

Surrogacy is used in reproductive medicine when a woman is incapable of carrying a pregnancy on her own - for example, if she lacks the necessary organs, there are medical contraindications, or past pregnancies have often ended in miscarriages. In this case, the embryo is transferred to a surrogate mother - a woman who will carry the child to term.

It is important to understand that the child will carry the genes of the parents (or donors), meaning that they will look like the biological mother and father.

Most couples approach fertility clinics with a specific woman in mind who they would like to be their surrogate mother. Often close friends or female relatives are chosen for this role. But even in cases where a couple does not have a candidate, surrogacy can be arranged. There are agencies in Northern Cyprus that recruit such women. After the baby is born, she signs a renunciation and the child is immediately adopted by the biological parents. It is important to note that surrogacy in North Cyprus is commercial, which means that the surrogate and her maintenance fees are paid separately for the duration of the pregnancy.
