One of the leading specialists in pancreatic surgery, as well as an expert in the surgical treatment of stomach cancer. Head of the Department of General and Visceral Surgery at the University Clinic of Freiburg.
Education:
In 1972, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. In 1975, he wrote and defended his doctoral thesis, receiving the highest mark. He is licensed to practise medicine in the USA.
Professional skills and achievements:
He performed the first complete pancreas transplant in Germany. He plays an active role in researching and implementing innovative methods in transplantology and pancreatic surgery. He founded centres for liver and pancreatic transplantation and surgical treatment in the cities of Rostock and Freiburg.
