About the doctor
He specialises in the surgical treatment of heart valve disorders. He was the first in Korea to successfully perform a transcatheter aortic valve replacement on a patient with severe aortic regurgitation. Furthermore, Professor Yu was the first in the world to successfully perform transcatheter aortic valve replacement on a patient with severe aortic regurgitation, in which, rather than replacing the valve with an artificial one, valve function was restored using a special ring (CAVA – Comprehensive Aortic Root and Valve Repair).
Professor Yu Cheol Woong was the first in Asia to successfully perform a transcatheter aortic valve implantation under local anaesthesia.
