About the doctor
Professor Nam Gye Hyon is one of the leading oncologists at the SoonChunHyang Clinic. The doctor has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of cervical cancer. He has successfully treated 1,000 cases of early-stage cervical cancer whilst preserving the uterus. He is actively involved in research and raises public awareness of screening and early diagnosis of the disease.
He has conducted research into gynaecological cancers at the Thomas Jefferson University laboratory (Philadelphia, USA) and at a research oncology clinic (Tokyo, Japan). He is an honorary member of the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP), a research fellow of the Korean Society of Gynaecological Oncology (SGO), and a member of the research committee developing guidelines for the treatment of cervical cancer at the Korean Society for Gynaecological Oncology Research.
In 2012, at an open scientific conference on cervical cancer, he delivered a scientific presentation on the importance of early diagnosis of the human papillomavirus (HPV), which causes the disease. The presentation received widespread support within the scientific community, and he was awarded the Thomas V. Sedlacek, MD Prize.
