  • Adapted beds with a height adjuster for independent convenient movement of the patient from the stroller to the bed and vice versa;
  • Special low registry counters that allow patients in wheelchairs to communicate comfortably with employees (they are also equipped with the aforementioned hearing systems);

Features of the Clinic

Cancer treatment at the Ichilov Clinic

Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov)

The Sourasky Medical Centre in Israel treats all types of stage 1-4 cancer using advanced methods. One of these is intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). This is an advanced method of radiotherapy that is considered the safest for the patient's healthy cells and at the same time the most effective in fighting cancer cells.

The MinION system is being tested at the Ichilov Cancer Centre. It allows real-time detection of any cancer cells remaining in the abdominal cavity after surgical removal of a malignant tumour. Now there is no need to wait several weeks for results: with this new approach, the presence of cancer cells can be determined within a few hours. This approach increases the success rate of surgery and patient survival rates.

Before radiotherapy, computer imaging of the malignant growth is performed and the irradiation process is modelled in order to accurately determine the size, shape and location of the tumour, as well as to calculate the appropriate dose, intensity and direction of irradiation.

This allows for maximum protection of the patient's healthy tissues and organs from radiation exposure and achieves high treatment results, as precisely focused radiation beams act only on the tumour.

Intensity-modulated radiation therapy minimises the likelihood of side effects and complications and allows for a faster recovery period.

Oncology at Ichilov is one of the most promising and rapidly developing areas. More than 80% of patients at Sourasky Hospital achieve sustained remission or are completely cured.

When surgical treatment of cancer is necessary, specialists prefer to use minimally invasive surgery, which allows neoplasms to be removed without incisions or sutures. Laparoscopic and endoscopic surgeries reduce tissue and organ damage, minimise the likelihood of complications, and speed up the rehabilitation process. Minimally invasive surgery is not only safe, but also effective in treating for cancer.

If a cancer patient's disease requires abdominal surgery, specialists do everything possible to preserve the organ affected by the tumour. The head of the oncology department at Ichilov Clinic is Professor Moshe Inbar, a leading Israeli oncologist with over 45 years of experience. He has helped 5,412 patients overcome cancer, performed 2,822 successful courses of radiation therapy and 1,597 operations to remove malignant breast tumours while preserving the organ.

Sami Ofer Heart Centre at Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv

Every year, the Ichilov Heart Centre performs over 2,500 coronary stenting procedures. The department's specialists diagnose and treat all types of cardiovascular diseases of varying severity. The centre has everything necessary to perform surgical procedures of any complexity, from modern equipment to qualified personnel.

The Sourasky Medical Centre in Israel performs:

  • replacement of the aortic valve with an artificial one: mechanical or biological (for patients with congenital or acquired heart defects);
  • coronary stenting (intravascular replacement of narrowed or blocked heart arteries with special metal tubes called stents);
  • carotid artery stenting (installation of a special thin stent in the narrowed segment of the carotid artery to prevent ischaemic stroke);
  • installation of permanent pacemakers (PCIs) and defibrillators.

The clinic also performs 95% successful non-surgical aortic valve replacements through the artery in the leg (less often - through the artery in the shoulder). This implantation method is considered the safest, as it does not involve incisions or stopping the heart, minimises the likelihood of complications and speeds up the recovery process. Non-surgical aortic valve replacement is ideal for patients who are contraindicated for open heart surgery.

The artificial valve is placed in a special 6 mm diameter tube, inserted into the femoral artery using a catheter, and after a couple of minutes, the valve is delivered directly to the heart via the bloodstream. There, it opens and replaces the damaged valves.

The head of the cardiology department at Sourasky Medical Centre is Professor Gadi Keren, who has been diagnosing and treating arrhythmia, heart failure, and heart valve disease for over 35 years.

92% of Gadi Keren's patients have been cured of their heart problems. 5,213 of his patients have been completely cured of arrhythmia. The professor is also the author of over 200 works in the field of cardiology and an honorary member of international organisations: the European Society of Cardiology (ESC); the American College of Cardiology (ACC); American Society of Echocardiography (ASE).

The neurology and neurosurgery department uses the Theator Surgical Intelligence platform. This system is based on artificial intelligence and computer vision. Theator's platform not only allows surgical procedures to be recorded and analysed for the first time, but also enables surgeons to improve their skills. This significantly increases the quality and accuracy of surgical interventions.

Ichilov is the first hospital in Israel to implement Surgical Intelligence in its operating rooms.
