The Story of a Patient's Recovery at Izmir Private Hospital

Mehmet Cengiz Özgenç, 74, went to Ozel Saglik Hastanesi after finding blood in his urine. He was diagnosed and found to have stage 2 bladder cancer. The cancer cells had already infiltrated the muscular tissue of the organ.

Open surgery to remove the bladder carried serious health risks for elderly patients. So he was offered a robotic operation. The intervention was carried out by the head of the urology department, Dr Burak Turna.

The operation lasted six hours. Doctors removed Mehmet's bladder, nearby lymph nodes and part of the small intestine, and then reconstructed the urinary system, creating an iliac canal.

The man survived the operation well and was discharged from the hospital on day 6. The doctors carried out the operation so well that Mehmet did not even need any painkillers after the intervention.
