Clinic Review

The network of Batıgöz medical centers today is one of the largest networks of highly specialized ophthalmological clinics in the region. The first medical center of the network was opened in 2004 in Izmir (Turkey), after which for several years new medical centers were opened in the major cities of the country, such as Manisa, Izmir and Istanbul. A little later, the family of clinics expanded to include hospitals in Romania, Belgium, the Netherlands, Iraq and Ukraine. Batigöz was founded by military surgeon and ophthalmologist Dr Mehmet Soyler.

Today, the clinics of Batigöz has: 9 medical centers, 2 diagnostic units and more than 180 thousand patients per year.

Medical centers of the network are equipped with the latest technology and posses all the necessary modern equipment in their arsenal for conducting qualitative diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmic diseases.

Thanks to the developed infrastructure, comprehensive diagnostics are available in each clinic, which makes it possible to place an accurate diagnosis and prescribe treatment. The centers have modern installations of excimer laser, argon and femtosecond laser, 3D visualization facilities, Intralase IFS. The clinics are equipped with Carl Zeiss optical equipment.

All treatment rooms are equipped with a sophisticated ventilation system that maintains hygienic air quality at the highest level.

Much attention is paid to the qualification of medical personnel, as well as to the introduction of innovative techniques for surgical and laser interventions. Doctors have a higher medical education obtained on the basis of prestigious medical schools in Europe and the United States, who regularly attend refresher courses.

Many specialists hold scientific degrees in the field of ophthalmology and take an active part in scientific activities. The clinic’s specialists carefully monitor the treatment process so that the patient receives high-quality medical care.

Features of the Clinic

Laser vision correction at the Batıgöz Eye Centre

Batygöz uses the most advanced methods of treating vision disorders (astigmatism, myopia, hyperopia, etc.) with lasers. The following methods of correcting eye pathologies are successfully used here:

  • LASIK: In this method, a flap is created on the cornea using a femtosecond laser system. An excimer laser is applied to the underlying tissue by removing the shell and reshaping the cornea. Complete tissue healing and vision recovery occur one month after surgery.
  • iLASIK: This new method, also known as femto-LASIK, is one of the most important advances in refractive surgery. A fully computer-controlled system, which does not allow for any mechanical intervention, performs the corneal incision. Since the epithelium does not peel off during the operation, pain is minimal and short-lived. Visual acuity after laser treatment reaches its maximum level within a week in most patients.
  • ReLEx Smile: The latest third-generation laser refractive surgery, during which the incision is reduced to 2 mm. The procedure is performed without blades (using a laser), which is relevant for high myopia. Compared to the Femto LASIK method, disc (lenticule) removal with ReLEx Smile is performed with a much smaller incision. Thus, a large number of patients can count on safe treatment without pain, burning or dry eyes.
  • PRK or No-Touch: removal of the epithelial layer followed by application of an excimer laser to the stroma layer below PRK. The epithelium regenerates within 4-5 days after surgery, and the patient feels no pain during the procedure. Full vision recovery occurs within a few months.

Smile laser surgery is performed using the VisuMax femtosecond laser, a patented technology from Carl Zeiss Meditec, and is FDA-approved.

In the SMILE procedure, the surgeon uses a femtosecond laser to create a small lens-shaped piece of tissue (lenticule) on the cornea. The surgeon then removes the lens from this incision by making a small arc-shaped incision on the surface of the cornea with the same laser. When the tiny lenticule is removed, myopia is corrected and the shape of the cornea changes. The corneal incision heals within a few days without stitches, and visual acuity returns very quickly.

Treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy at the Batigöz Hospital

Long-term diabetes is one of the risk factors that play a role in the development of diabetic retinopathy. The prevalence of retinopathy in adolescents with type 1 insulin-dependent diabetes increases with age. Fluctuations in blood sugar levels contribute to retinal damage and disease progression.

To diagnose this disease, Batygöz uses FFA (fundus angiography), optical coherence tomography, OCT angiography, etc. It is important to note that, unlike traditional eye angiography, OCT angiography is not administered intravenously. At the same time, visualisation is provided using 3D.

Diabetic retinopathy is treated with an argon laser, which slows down the progression of damage to the blood vessels in the eye and can stop the development of the disease at an early stage and prevent permanent vision loss. The clinic may also use intraocular injections to treat many stages of diabetic retinal damage. In severe cases, intraocular membranes are cleared by means of pars plana vitrectomy.

The Batygöz Clinic uses the Plexr device (laser radio distiller) to tighten loose, sagging skin around the eyes. This easily removes layers of skin, stretches the tissue and eliminates wrinkles, restoring a youthful appearance to the eyes. Anaesthetic creams are applied during and after the procedure, reducing discomfort.

Plexr can also be used to effortlessly remove benign growths and spots around the eyes. The device is also used to treat tumours on the edges of the eyelids and skin haemangiomas.

The effectiveness of Plexr procedure in Batygöz clinics is over 92%.
