Indications for mammoplasty are:
- poorly developed and small breasts;
- asymmetry of breasts;
- ptosis – deformation of the breast after childbirth and during child feeding;
- age related loss of form;
- restoration after surgery (mastectomy);
- woman’s desire to change the size / shape of the breast.
TYPES OF BREAST PLASTIC PROCEDURES
Breast augmentation
Breast enlargement is carried out in two ways: with the help of breast implants or lipofilling. Breast endoprosthetics are distinguished by the types of surgical approach and the method of implant placement.
Types of surgical access:
- through the incision under the arm;
- through the crease under the breast;
- through the incision around the nipple.
Insertion of the breast implants through the armpit is more difficult from a surgical point of view. But the advantage of this method is that there will not be the slightest scar left on the breast itself – the surgeon will neatly “hide” the seam under the muscle.Usually by this method round breast implants are inserted.
Implantation of the implants through the crease under the breast is the most preferred method. It allows the surgeon to install the implant as accurately and precisely as possible, especially when it comes to inserting the anatomical breast implants. The scar gently hides under the breast. Advantage of this type of access is that it allows you to install an endoprosthesis of any size.
Installation with a cut in the areola of the nipple eliminates the possibility of breastfeeding the baby in the future. This type of endoprosthetics is usually used if it is necessary to further adjust the size of the areola or nipple.
Method of installation distinguish by:
- implantation under pectoralis muscle;
- implantation under mammary gland;
- a combined method of implantation (partially under the gland and partially under the muscle);
The implantation under the muscle allows you to hide the contour of the implant because part of the muscular tissue covers it. Thus, the breast looks more natural. However, the method has a slight drawback – the pectoral muscle, when contracted, exerts pressure on the endoprosthesis and can push it out. This is upsetting as distortion of the shape of the breast can happen.
The insertion of the implants under the mammary gland is one of the most popular methods. Unlike the installation under the muscle, this type of installation of the implants excludes the possibility of its displacement. However, this kind of installation does not suit everyone. After pregnancy, it is undesirable for women to use this method. Muscle tissues can thin out and lose its tone.
The combined method of breast implants placement is also called the dual plane method. The specialist places the upper part of the implant under the muscle, and the lower one – under the gland. Thus, the probability of side effects are minimized. The dual plane method gives the maximum aesthetic effect and is considered one of the best these days.
The method of installation of the implants and the type of access depend on the individual anatomical features of the body and on the patient’s age. In each case, the physician chooses the optimal method of performing the surgery, taking into account all possible risks and complications.
Reduction mammoplasty (breast reduction)
This type of breast plasty is usually required in the following cases:
- hypertrophy of mammary glands;
- excessive strain on the spine;
- age-related deformity of the breast;
- drooping after delivery and feeding.
The boob reduction surgery involves the removal of excess fat and skin. The surgeon then corrects the breast shape again from the remaining tissues. Most often the breast reduction results in the location change of the nipples.
Breast uplift
Breast lift (mastopexy) is required when they are lowered (ptosis). The most common causes of breast removal surgery:
- sharp weight loss;
- age changes;
- childbirth and feeding.
This operation is often combined with endoprosthetics, although this is not necessary. During the procedure, the doctor removes excess skin and changes the position of the nipples. With a slight ptosis of the breast, mastopexy can be performed using a notch in the form of a circle or semicircle in the areola. With pronounced ptosis, the incisions around the nipples are performed as vertical or T-shaped incisions.
In addition, mastopexy can be performed in less traumatic ways:
- endoscopically through the incision under the arm;
- with the help of threads (polypropylene filaments with serifs hook up the tissues of the breast and are attached to the collarbone).
RESULTS OF MAMMOPLASTY AND REHABILITATION AFTER OPERATION
Like any other type of surgical intervention, the plastic of the breast is accompanied by operational risks:
- stitches separation;
- hematoma;
- scar formation;
- tissue necrosis;
- puss formation;
- formation of capsular contracture.
The mammary glands may lose their sensitivity for some time after the operation. After 1-1.5 week edema subsides, within 3 months to half a year the breast will cease to be firm.
After the breast plastic procedure, the following requirements must be fulfilled:
- give up alcohol for 2 weeks;
- sleep only on the back for 2 weeks after mammoplasty;
- wear compression bra for 1-3 months – depending on the type of operation performed;
- exclude physical activity for 3 months;
- to refuse from a sauna and a sun bath for the term up to 3 months;
- make bandages on time;
- take medications prescribed by a doctor.

“At my age of 36, I decided to have an operation to enlarge my breast.
